Profile

Ros Fernihough is a former Civil Servant and Local Government Officer who gave up her former career to study law.

In 1993 whilst still at University she and her husband travelled to the Dominican Republic and suffered a genuine "Holiday from Hell". The conditions in the hotel were indescribable and Ros being a student of law soon realised that something could be done. She and a group comprising of nine people pursued a successful claim against the tour operator as litigants in person without the aid of any legal representation.

As a result of the groups' success, led by Ros, it changed her life forever. No one at that time specialised in travel claims on behalf of consumers and she found herself, whilst still at University, inundated with requests from other holidaymakers to take up their cases.

Ros now heads up her own department dealing exclusively with holiday and travel claims, only for consumers, has a turnover of consumer cases ranging from telephone enquiries to successfully completed claims estimated to be in excess of three thousand and growing, some 15% increase on last year.

Ros became a contributor to the Woolf Report, Access to Justice, which resulted in the New Civil Procedural Rules being introduced. She is currently a member of a working party preparing a Holiday Pre-Action Protocol, the aim of which is to introduce a set of rules to be followed by both consumers and tour operators involved in legal disputes.

Ros regularly gives advice on television and radio and in newspapers and journals and listed below are some of the many television and radio programs and newspaper and journal articles that she has appeared in and contributed to:
